Competition MTB Team

About CCC

A nonprofit youth mountain bike team for East Bay families.

Who We Are

Contra Costa Composite (CCC) is a nonprofit youth mountain bike team serving students and families in Contra Costa County and the East Bay. We are part of NICA (the National Interscholastic Cycling Association) and the NorCal High School Cycling League.

Our Mission

Contra Costa Composite exists to provide young riders with the opportunity to develop a lifelong love of mountain biking through a safe, inclusive, and supportive team environment. We empower riders to grow in confidence, fitness, and character while building community among families across Contra Costa County.

Who Can Ride

  • Middle school riders — 6th through 8th grade
  • High school riders — 9th through 12th grade
  • Boys and girls of all backgrounds
  • Beginners who are just starting out
  • Experienced riders looking for a team
  • Riders do not need to be expert racers to join

Our Values

Safety

Safety is always our top priority — on the trail and off.

Fun

Mountain biking should be fun. We keep practices energizing and race weekends exciting.

Inclusivity

Every rider is welcome regardless of ability, background, or experience.

Respect

Respect for teammates, coaches, other teams, trails, and the sport.

Teamwork

We ride together, support each other, and celebrate as a team.

Personal Growth

We help riders push their limits, set goals, and grow in confidence.

Trail Stewardship

We take care of the trails we ride and give back to the community.

Sportsmanship

Win or lose, we represent CCC with class and integrity.

What Makes CCC Different

CCC is about more than racing. We focus on building rider skills, confidence, fitness, friendships, and a genuine love for mountain biking. Our coaches create a supportive environment where every rider can grow at their own pace — whether they want to race or just enjoy riding with friends.

NICA and NorCal Affiliation

NICA — the National Interscholastic Cycling Association — is the governing body for youth mountain bike racing across the United States. NICA sets the rules, safety standards, and coaching requirements that all member teams follow. NorCal MTB (the NorCal High School Cycling League) is our regional NICA league, organizing the race schedule, venues, coach training, and official standings for Northern California teams.

Being part of NICA and NorCal gives CCC riders access to organized racing, trained coaches, safety standards, and a larger community of youth mountain bikers. It also means our team follows nationally recognized guidelines for youth safety, coaching, and sportsmanship.

Note: Official rules, requirements, and race details come from NICA and NorCal MTB. CCC follows their guidelines and encourages families to visit their websites for the most up-to-date information.

Community & Fun

Being part of CCC means being part of a community. Race weekends bring families together, trail work days teach stewardship, and team events create lasting memories. Parents play a key role — handling registration, coordinating transportation, volunteering at the team tent, fundraising, and serving on the Parent Board. We believe mountain biking is better when it is shared.

New Rider Guide Parent Board & Team Support

Parent Board & Team Support

"CCC is powered by coaches, riders, and families. Our coaches spend their time on the bike with the kids, helping them build skills, confidence, fitness, and trail awareness. The Parent Board helps make that possible by taking on the off-the-bike work that keeps the team organized and moving."

Why the Parent Board Matters

Our coaches should be focused on riding with the kids, teaching skills, building confidence, and keeping riders safe. The Parent Board exists to handle everything else — so coaches can coach.
