What are Fun Rides?
Fun Rides are casual group rides in Oct and Nov, designed for families interested in joining CCC before the season starts. They're a great way to meet coaches & the returning team members, see what practices are like, and get your rider comfortable riding with the group.
Fun Rides are free and there is no commitment to join CCC.
Who Should Attend?
- Returning team riders
- Any new rider in 6th–12th grade thinking about joining
- All skill levels — beginners are especially welcome
- Parents should attend and ride or observe
Girls who are new to mountain biking are especially encouraged to attend. Come by yourself or bring a friend—we'll make sure you feel welcomed and connected with other riders.
What Is the Ride Actually Like?
Fun Rides are group rides meant to give new riders a real feel for a CCC team. Coaches will run a skills assessment for about 45 minutes, starting with the basics: body position, braking, bike handling, and shifting, then break the riders up into skill level groups.
Here's what to expect:
- Beginner Rider Group (The Cats): Typically cover 3-4 miles, 1.5 to 2 hours, Flat paved trails or flat wide fire roads. No significant climbs or down hills.
- Intermediate Rider Group (The Snakes): Typically cover 6-10 miles, 1.5 to 2 hours, fire roads and some wider single track. Uphills and downhills with 300-500 ft elevation.
- Advanced Rider Group (The Hawks): Fire Roads to get to the single tracks. 6-10 miles, 300-80 ft elevation.
- Does anyone get left behind? Never. These are no-drop rides — the group regroups often and no one rides alone.
- What if a rider can't keep up? A coach will ride with them at their pace, and we adjust the route or turn back if needed.
- True beginners: Coaches start with the basics — body position, braking, and shifting — and build skills at each rider's pace.
What to Bring
- A working mountain bike
- A properly fitting helmet (required)
- Water and a snack
- Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes
